Belief in God Makes Society Worse Off?

I don't know what kind of scientific weight this study has, but it didn't surprise me at all:

RELIGIOUS belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today.

According to the study, belief in and worship of God are not only unnecessary for a healthy society but may actually contribute to social problems.

Catholic school girls are the dirtiest/nastiest/raunchiest/most promiscuous (and boys the most drug-addled, etc.)? That may or may not be true, but I've seen several studies now suggesting that repressed people have the most intense social problems.

There is anecdotal evidence that people in God-fearing country - in America, we call them the 'red states' - because the majority of the people who live there are always breathless, screaming at the top of their lungs at the harm brought upon them by the end of the American slave trade circa their defeat in The Civil War - are repressed socially and sexually, as well as in other ways. They watch socially-taboo shows like Desperate Housewives the most. The liberal blogs have been pointing out the penchant for teen pregnancy the red states just can't seem to shake. The slavery map really drives home what we've been thinking all along - Republicans are a bunch of "I Love God"-talking, toothless, gun-toting, racists.

This is just one more study suggesting the obvious - these people are just back-asswards.
